Hidden
Valley Camp Location & Facilities
Hidden
Valley Camp is located in Freedom, near the beautiful
coastal villages of Belfast and Camden on Maine's
famous Penobscot Bay. The meadows, pine trees, animal
corrals and sprawling red farm house with attached
barn all create a friendly, homelike atmosphere.
|
 |

| The
camp is secluded in a 300-acre wooded glen
with a private lake one mile long. |
|
| "Having
had the chance to immerse ourselves in the camp,
we discovered a peacefulness there, a calm and contentment
that shows itself in the way the campers walk and
speak... Erica greeted us with an easy-going, gentle
pace which echoed in her voice. There was a richness
in her... I think a huge part of the feeling emanating
from her was [a result of] the environment and facilities
at Hidden Valley; it is clearly one of the most
beautiful and well-kept properties I have ever seen."

Campers
follow a path up a grassy hill, through the woods
to our sandy beach. All the land around the spring-fed
lake is privately owned, so there are no motor
boats or public access.
At
the lake is our sparkling new pavillion, sauna,
waterslide, and diving rafts. Trained staff provide
supervision and instruction from floating docks
attached to the shore.
Ledge
Mountain, a grass and pine tree-covered hill,
provides a spectacular view of the lake and surrounding
area.
|
|
On
a walk up the hill, one first encounters
Hidden Valley's Tipi Village with its three
tipis and outdoor kitchen.
Then
a trail through the woods leads to the top
of the mountain and the inspirational log
cabin, built by campers in 1973, overlooking
the lake.

Cabin
Life - Hidden Valley's cabins
are open, airy and fun. Campers are grouped by
age or grade in any of these 24 unique structures.
Cabin
activities may include a swim at rest period,
campfires, crafts or sports on Cabin Night, or
mellow "downtime" in the cabin.
|
|
During
the first few days of camp, counselors work to create
a small community in the cabin and are always available
to provide individual attention to all campers.
Peter
and Meg meet regularly with counselors
(3-4 staff per cabin) to monitor the progress of
their cabin groups.
