The leaves amongst the llamas

Good morning, friends! Olive Oyl here with another HVC update!

It’s beginning to feel like fall up in Maine, with a nip in the air and the leaves beginning to change. Be sure to check out the photos of the llama pen and Blodgett at this gorgeous time of the year! Justin went on a lovely bike ride around camp to capture these beautiful photos.

The leaves aren’t the only things changing around camp. We have a few new construction projects happening, like a shooting platform on the archery range and repaving the basketball court. Positive improvements that will make next summer all the more amazing!

Stay tuned for progress reports on the fall foliage and our other work projects around camp!

Over and out,

Olive

Hi there, folks! Special Reporter Olive Oyl here with all your HVC reunion news. After a brief hiatus in the news-reporting world, it’s so exciting to be back and sharing all the goodness that camp has to offer with the rest of the world.

After an amazing summer, camp took a well-deserved break for a couple of weeks and rejoined this past weekend for a spectacular reunion. Peter and Meg were joined by a handful of staff to host a reunion of Alumni dating back all the way to 1955. There were former campers, counselors, staff, and even whole families joined us (future Hidden Valley campers, hopefully!). There were a whole variety of camp activities happening, like arts classes, such as glass beads and mosaics, plus swimming down at the beautiful lake. The ropes course was in use and everyone participated in camp classics like campfire songs and sharing old stories. A visit to Hidden Valley wouldn’t be complete without arguably the best part of the camp experience…the Candy Drop! Adults and children alike relished in falling candy from the sky and in the sharing of traditions old to some and brand new to others. There was also Pine Grove, our peaceful campfire ceremony held at the beautiful spot past Tipi Hill, where songs, stories, and laughs were all shared. There was plenty of reminiscing with old photos and videos, and of course reuniting old, yet familiar faces. And of course, there was plenty of good food to be had (special thanks to the amazing Lilian and kitchen staff!), with pancakes for breakfast, hearty lunches, and our classic Lobster Banquet. Overall, it was an incredible few days where old friends were reunited and new memories made at a place that so many of us, across all ages, experiences, and geography, call home. The revival of so much camp spirit has gotten us excited about the upcoming summer…the winter chill means that summer is just a little bit closer!

Check out the awesome photos and stay tuned for more fall news!

Lots of love,

Olive
