Hey, friends! It’s your one and only news correspondent Olive Oyl writing with some camp news on this fine autumn day.

Well, it’s that time of year again. Not just the crisp leaves beneath our feet and the chill in the air. I’m talking about the dressing up and the sweet treats…Halloween! Candy and eccentric outfits are two things that we value very highly at Hidden Valley. Camp is a time when we can delight in being silly and having a little extra fun, dressing up goofily whether it be for Pajama Day or the Under the HV-Sea dance. Some camp characters only come out during special occasions, like the Wheel of Misfortune’s Gruesome, while others we see on a regular basis at evening or morning meeting, such as the Laundry Llama or Major Stains.

Costume Contest! Check out the photos below and see if you can guess where they’re from. If you guess correctly, a prize will be in your future!

Wishing you a safe and fun Halloween,

Olive

Camp Friends Are the Best Friends

Howdy, folks! Olive Oyl back at it once again with some news just for you!

As fall rolls around, camp quiets down, but that doesn’t mean we’re not keeping busy. Enrolling campers for next summer, working on the archery range, and resurfacing the basketball courts have all been ongoing projects this fall.

Although it seems that the summer is in the distant past, we have our camp memories and friendships that keep us going all year long. Hidden Valley is a special place where friendships can exist outside of the stresses or competition of school. At HVC, kids are free to be wacky and goofy and find that other friend who likes to be just as silly. It’s amazing to be able to cultivate such a strong friendship in a few short weeks, and that closeness is a result of living in a cabin community together. From cabin nights to bedtime routines to that special spot for lunch, these bonding moments come to promote a sense of cabin pride and closeness that is unparalleled outside the camp environment. While saying goodbye at the end of the summer can be a sad moment, we all head our separate ways during the year knowing that we’ll be in touch with our incredible friends, whether through e-mail, snail mail, or camp reunions.

Well that’s all for now! Enjoy the fall colors and keep your camp memories close to keep you warm on chilly autumn nights!

So long,

Olive
