Getting Oriented and Starting up the Session!

Sunday, July 23rd, 2017

Class schedule – done!

Hey everybody! I’m Luna Bug, and this is another late night news update after a fantastically full Orientation Day.

The day got started with a glorious Bagel Sunday. Everybody chose their bagel of choice (plain, poppy, sesame, onion, or cinnamon raisin), the spread of their choice (butter, cream cheese, lox cream cheese, or chive cream cheese), and whether or not they wanted an egg or fruit with it.

With the first Bagel Sunday of the session completed, everybody headed to the backyard to hear Meg and Tom play their usual Sunday morning Dulcimer improv before starting morning meeting. During meeting we went through all the usual songs and announcements, stopping every now and then to explain to the new campers why the heck we do some of the things we do! They’re quick learners.

After meeting ended we all went onwards with our days! Cabins headed off to class sign ups, learned about the rules at the lake and the pool, took the swim evaluation, chatted with the nurses at the Health Lodge (Ouch!), and got their photos taken. Games of Ninjas and Mafia were played throughout the day, and cabins were seen all throughout camp touring the various parts. In addition, each cabin group had a special activity planned to get themselves well aquatinted:

Wombles baked yummy apple crisp

Down Under made memory jars

LCH played chess and took a walk to the treehouse

Loons went for a creek walk and also ended up at the treehouse!

Paquatahnee made decorations for their cabin

Avalon did an egg drop

Gimme Shelter played card games and board games

French 1/4 made bracelets with clay beads

Chateau Fiasco had a relaxing hang out session

Shangri-La played “get to know you” games

Treasure Island also played “get to know you” games

Atlantis did some Coke and Mentos science

Wabanaki played “get to know you” games

Camelot also played “get to know you” games

Valhalla did M&M questions

Forbidden Planet spent some chill time together

Halley’s Comet played “get to know you” games

Taj Mahal did “make a dates” under the dome

Our teen programs did some awesome activities as well. HVA climbed the ropes course while Alive started making their alter egos out of paper mache.

After a well deserved lunch, everybody went back to their cabins for a quick rest period. After rest period there were cabin meetings in which things like shower schedules community rules were talked about. After lunch it was onwards with all the various activities and things that had to be done today!

Tonight, the evening program was Opening Pinegrove. After a dinner of spaghetti with red sauce, garlic bread, and Caesar salad, the camp gathered at the base of tipi hill. We were led up the hill by Courtney F. and a row of counselors with linked arms, and into the pine grove where the whole camp circled around the fire lit by the torch that Courtney brought up. Many cabins performed and presented songs and stories, making the night a really lovely way to introduce different cabin groups and to create unity within the whole camp. Shangri-La had us laughing with a skit about an invisible bus to HVC, Atlantis performed a strange dance accompanied by a drum, and there were lots of camp classics; Princess Pat, Baby Shark, Bazooka Bubble Gum, and Hermie the Worm, just to name a few.

After that, it was back down the hill to our cabins for bedtime! Tomorrow is the first day of classes, and with that we need a good nights sleep! Cara B. and I are aaall tuckered out, so we’ll see you tomorrow for another great report!

Check below for tons of photos from throughout the day!

Faithfully yours,

Luna B.

A Big Day Behind Us and A Big Day Ahead!

Georgia presenting our NY bus luggage!

What’s good, everybody?!

It’s Luna Bug here, writing to you all at the end of a smooth and easy second session arrival day! The beautiful blue sky shone on us all day, and a light breeze picked up towards the middle of the day as if pushing us off into the evening and the rest of the session.

After an afternoon full of chess and checkers, apples to apples and tetherball, guitar strumming, and magic playing, we all gathered in the Front Yard at about 6:15pm to greet the buses in from New York with the last of the campers for the session. After that, everyone went to the Backyard in our newly fully formed cabin groups for a quick evening meeting. The Program Directors, or PDs, put on a fantastic little skit to introduce us to them which involved the teen program Alive, and then after that it was quickly off to dinner for fried chicken and carrot cake!

Our evening program tonight was Opening Night Skits, which was M.C.ed by Luke, Cate, and Rob P. Rob played a goofy and perhaps misguided genius scientist and Cate played his zombie-actress creation. The two of them were guests on Luke’s “talk show.” This was all just a funny way to introduce all the different classes we can take at camp! In between each of our M.C.’s acts the counselors would get up on stage and introduce themselves and what classes they were teaching.

Speaking of classes, tomorrow is Orientation Day, and during the day one of the many things we do is choose classes! Besides that the whole camp will take swim evaluations either at the pool or lake, go to the Health Lodge (ouch!) for a quick Ookoo check, and chat with the nurses, and have our photos taken to be sent to folks at home. For the rest of the day each cabin will take a camp tour, and do a fun activity to help the cabin get to know each other.

After this full day of learning names and unpacking bags, it’s time for me to hit the hay, as Jet and Seven would say. Wait, do mini-ponies hit the hay? Or do they just eat hay? I’ll check with them and get back to you all on that, later.

I’ll be buzzing back to my cabin for some Zzzs now!

Awesome Arrivals and Front Yard Fun!

Card games on Arrival Day!

Happy Saturday, friends! Cara B. Ner here with news from Arrival Day. We woke up and enjoyed a yummy breakfast which included scrambled eggs, hash browns, and blackberries. We then gathered in the Front Yard for some super fun activities while we waited for campers to arrive by car. We made name tags, played card games, jammed on guitar and had a sing along (songs by The Beatles were big favorites,) played frisbee, and made TONS of friendship bracelets.

Campers driven in by their folks were met by our super greeters. Counselors from their cabins helped campers move their luggage and get settled in with their cabin mates. It’s so exciting to see empty cabins filling up again! Once the rush of arriving campers slowed down a bit, it was time for lunch. We had delicious sandwiches, salad, and watermelon – perfect for this super hot day.

Speaking of which, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous! The sun is shining, the air is warm, and everyone is having a blast hanging out and getting to know each other while we wait for more campers and their folks to arrive this afternoon. Just before dinner, buses with the remaining campers and chaperoning staff will arrive, marking the official beginning of second session with a full camp! After our first evening meeting of the month, we will eat dinner with our cabin groups and head over to the Rec Hall for Opening Night Skits! Luna will tell you all about it tonight. It’s back to the Front Yard for me, don’t want to miss any Arrival Day fun!

Later, gators!

Finishing Up Intersession- Done! Firing Up Second Session, Fun!

Friday, July 21st, 2017

Chateau Tobasco!

Hey everybody! It’s Luna Bug here buzzing back in with the deets on what’s been going on here at HVC and what’s to come in the next day or two!

Yesterday’s Departure Day went off without a hitch. The buses got going early in the AM, and by midmorning all of the campers traveling by car were picked up by their folks. As everything goes here at HVC, as soon as one thing gets done, another thing gets going, and Departure Day was no exception. Just as soon as our last first session camper departed, our AWACs arrived, and of course our Intersessioners were all still hanging around camp. The intersessioners are the campers who are staying for part of both sessions, FYI.

Speaking of Intersession, it was awesome! A few counselors took the whole crew to Moose Point state park yesterday to hang out and decompress a bit, and then they got sandwiches for dinner. Once back on camp they all watched the first Despicable Me movie in the Foothills, which is where they slept as well. It was pretty fun for them to watch the original because the whole camp got to see the 3rd film in the series earlier this session. Today, the intersession campers and counselors packed lunch on camp and headed to Bangor, Maine to do some escape rooms! After that they drove to Belfast and got ice cream at Wild Cow Creamery.

While all that was going on yesterday and today, the staff had a little bit of time off before we all were back on camp today at 1pm. From then on we’ve been gearing up for our second session campers arriving tomorrow! After a general staff meeting we all broke up into our individual cabin groups to talk about the new campers, and how we want our cabin life to be! Importantly, everybody also came up with cabin themes. Not all of them have been decided yet, but here are the first round of themes:

Taj Mahal Tree Huggers

Camelot Caramel

Down Under Daisies

Gimme Shelter Surfers

Chateau Tobasco

Shangri-Land Before Time

Paquatahnee Sock-watahnee

French Quarter Favorite Things (Sound of Music!)

Alive Underdogs, Dogs Under Things

LCH Meat and Cheese

Loons Wizards

Atlantis Mantis

Valiant Valhalla (influential women throughout history!)

Wabanaki World Wanderers

We’ll give you an update on the rest of the cabins’ themes in the next few days!

After the cabin groups met, the staff all broke up into our afternoon priorities. Whether that was the PK work crew, shift heads, art areas, or archery, each member of staff worked during the afternoon to prepare their areas.

At 5:00pm the staff from the youngest cabins gathered in the Backyard in order to meet their new AWACs! Each of the AWACs was placed in a cabin and moved in before evening meeting. Just after this, the Intersessioners joined their new cabins- the first campers of second session!

After a delicious dinner prepared by our fantastic Alive staff (the teen arts program here), everybody returned to the front yard to make cubby tags, welcome signs, bunk tags, and decorations for the cabins. Afterwards, a few of our staff will be staying up to greet the new Japanese campers and help them into their cabins for the night. The rest of the staff will head to bed, because tomorrow is arrival day, after all, and we need to be well rested!

Later tonight, a bus full of campers from Spain, Korea, and Japan are arriving. Tomorrow, campers will be arriving from 8:30am onwards, and by around 6pm we should have all of our campers for the first two weeks of camp!

Exciting things are happening here today, and everyday.

Over and out,

Luna

Goodbyes and New Beginnings on Departure Day!

Forbidden Planet getting silly at Lobster Banquet!

Good morning, readers! Cara B. here with the departure day scoop!

Speaking of scoops… last night’s Lobster Banquet was just as delicious as expected. The dining hall roared with cheers as Meg and Sandia came running out in their cow suits, Ben & Jerry’s in hand. My favorite flavor had to be Chocolate Fudge Brownie, but I think Luna Bug preferred Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz.

Once our bellies were full, we took our special, silent walk up Tipi Hill for Closing Pine Grove. We had some awesome acts! Loons told an animal folk tale with a Hidden Valley twist. Georgie and Maemae sang a super sweet song with original lyrics about camp. Valhalla did a spin on The Cup Song with lyrics about the end of the session and French 1/4 sang a beautiful rendition of Valerie. LCH and Chateau Fiasco kept it simple with some camp classics; Princess Pat and Baby Shark.

We woke up bright and early at 5am, serenaded by our oldest cabins, Forbidden Planet, Taj Mahal, Deer Meadows, and Shangri-La. We enjoyed a light continental breakfast before we said goodbye to our friends who left on buses. There was loading luggage, last minute white book signing, and LOTS of hugs. Continuing a favorite HVC tradition, campers and staff danced the Funky Chicken (and the funky moose, llama, lobster, and other animals,) as the buses pulled out of camp. Afterward, we ate a more hearty second breakfast and are now hanging out around the center of camp.

Some campers are waiting for their folks to pick them up to be driven home, while others who are staying for second session await a trip to the beach this afternoon – wahoo! It will be a super hot day today, so the beach will be the perfect way to enjoy the sun. Counselors are busy preparing camp for another session. Some are planning evening programs and gathering supplies for classes, while others are making sure all areas of camp are in tip-top shape for our next round of campers.

That’s all for now! Updates on the timing of all camp buses can be found on the Hidden Valley Facebook page. We’ll be back tomorrow with all the news including a second intersession trip and more second session prep!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Cara

A Packing Day Party and a Peaceful Pinegrove on the Second to Last Day!

Bermuda Triangle is all packed up and ready to go, and looking cool as ever doing it

Howdy hey, everybody! I have an exciting new co-reporter to introduce you all to… Cara B. Ner! Cara is super stoked to be joining the team, and I’m really happy to have her here. Take it away, Cara!

Hello, gang! Cara here with my very first news update of the summer! I can’t wait to report all the fun that is still to come in the next month.

Last night after a yummy dinner of chicken patties, roasted veggies and ooey gooey chocolate chip cookies, we gathered in the backyard for the Fair Day Dance. There was swinging on the swings, tether ball, lots of laughter, and dancing, of course! We ended the night with a big dance to “Don’t Stop Believin’,” a camp classic.

After sleeping in a bit, (score!) and a breakfast of delicious cinnamon rolls, (double score!) we met in the front yard for a big morning meeting. We thanked all of our wonderful pro-staff who will be leaving us after this session, as well as our amazing AWACs for all of their hard work. We had our last Thought Du Jour from the Taj girls, our last Joke of the Day from Gimme Shelter, and of course our last Spirit Animal from Forbidden Planet. We discussed luggage labeling, distributing art projects, and a HUGE post-packing cabin clean.

We went back to our cabins and got right to work! And boy, did we have quite a task in front of us. There was packing up clothes and bedding, cleaning out cubbies and wiping down mattresses, and a whole lot of sweeping. After we passed inspection from our toughest inspectors yet, (the PDs and Peter and Meg!) we headed off to lunch.

After a much needed bite to eat, each cabin headed out for a special final cabin activity. It was so much fun! Here’s what each cabin got up to this afternoon:

The Burrow had an egg hunt around camp

Down Under made memory jars

Wombles read Harry Potter by the fire

Loons did an egg drop

LCH made comics

Avalon decorated all-star t-shirts

French 1/4 had a waffle party

Paquatahnee did Tipi Zipline

Gimme Shelter wrote “warm n’ fuzzies” and practiced for pine grove

Wabanaki finished decorating their cabin t-shirts and wrote “warm n’ fuzzies”

Bermuda Triangle made shrinky dinks and played games

Valhala wrote “warm n’ fuzzies” and had a group reflection on the session

Fiddler’s Green had a dance party

Chateau Fiasco also had a dance party

Shangri-la wrote “warm n’ fuzzies”

Haley’s Comet rode their horses on the Brumby Trail

Camelot wrote “warm n’ fuzzies”

Forbidden Planet decorated t-shirts

Deer Meadows searched for a secret car hidden in the HVC woods

(“Warm n’ fuzzies” are little notes written anonymously for each member of the cabin to be read on the way home, making everyone feel warm n’ fuzzy!)

Whew! After we were done, we gathered in the front yard for a big transportation meeting. Peter called out where everyone was going and how they were getting there to make sure we were all sorted for tomorrow. We then moved our luggage from all around camp using our BIG muscles (with the help of some camp vehicles,) into the front yard. We made sure to sort it all by method of transportation and destination so that every suitcase and duffle will find their way home!

Right now, we are having some much needed chill time in the backyard. In a little bit, we’ll have our last evening meeting, including a final useless fact from our Deer Meadows Gurus. After meeting, we will head into the dining hall for the long awaited Lobster Banquet, complete with salad, dinner rolls, potatoes, muscles, and a choice of lobster, chicken parm, or spanakopita – yum! Dessert will be assorted pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, of course, handed out by Meg herself. We will then thank our kitchen staff for all of their hard work and delicious cooking this summer. Without them, we would never have the energy to do all of our awesome activities!

After dinner and a generous application of bug spray, we will head up Tipi Hill one last time for Closing Pine Grove. Pine Grove is a super special camp spot. We go up twice a session to open and close camp in a wooded, technology-free zone. We will go up in cabin groups around a big fire to sing songs, tell stories, and just be together as a camp for our last night. We will then have our Candle Lighting Ceremony, where every camper, counselor, and staff member will have a chance to say goodbye to each other. It is a bittersweet evening – it is sad to have to say goodbye to our friends, but so joyful to remember the amazing time we had together.

Tomorrow, we will wake up SUPER early to load buses and vans and begin heading home. Stay tuned for travel updates and departure day activities to come. Although this session is coming to an end, I’m SO excited for all that next session has to offer.

Climbing away!

Cara B.

Fantastic Fair Day Fun!

Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

Poop shoot in action!

Happy Tuesday, friends and fellow!

Even though things are winding down for the session, it really feels like things have just been winding up what with everything going on around here!

Yesterday’s Lazy Day ended with a wonderful afternoon of pool activities for the older half, and Packing Day Junior-Junior for the younger half.

After the final pizza night of the session, we all headed over to watch the musical! A Very Potter Musical was absolutely magical, and it wasn’t just the spells that made it that way! It was a hilarious and smart show executed fantastically by the directors Dario, Aly, and Luke. Man, and don’t even get me started on all the performers! Everyone sang and acted with gusto, and the audience gave it a standing ovation. After the big lazy day we all headed off to bed to sleep well so we could gear up for today’s Fair Day!

Boy, Fair Day did not start slow. To begin the day we had a road race down camp road, the second annual one, in fact. The participating campers and counselors got up a bit earlier than everyone else, had breakfast, and then were bused up the road so that they would then run down. The rest of camp got to sleep in until 8:15 (silent ups!), had breakfast, and then we headed to the front yard to wait for the racers. Just as HVA got up to talk to us about their trip, the first racer rounded the corner: Jonah! After that, Olive and I can’t quite remember the order of who won so we’ll get the full report on that for tomorrow.

After camp meeting everybody went to the backyard to set up the Fair Day booths, had Packing Day Junior, and then headed to the horse barn to watch the Brumby show.

Over the course of this session, the Brumby program has worked every day taking care of the horses, and working on the Brumby show. Today they showed the whole camp what they’ve been working on and it was awesome!

After the Brumby show everybody headed to the backyard to begin Fair Day, and man, it was an awesome day! There was a climbing wall, a bouncy house, the marriage booth, pillow jousting, name change, a jelly bean count, face painting, a horse and carriage walk, and fortune telling. The chocolate fountain was in full swing, there was lemonade, pretzels, hot dogs, corn dogs, and ice cream, and most importantly (at least to me) FRIED DOUGH! Thinking about those pieces of fried goodness doused in enough powder sugar to simulate a snowstorm is making my mouth water just reporting on it now.

To close the Fair Day activities we all gathered around the gazebo to listen to a few songs from the Old Man Rockband, a newly formed band featuring our very own Tom the dulcimer man, Rob P., and John N.

Now, the whole camp is gathered in the rec hall to watch the camp slide show which has photos from the whole session as well as videos from our video classes. After that we’re going to have evening meeting, then dinner, and then tonight’s evening program which is the Fair Day Dance! It’s going to be a great night to hang out with friends, sign white books, and dance our hearts out, unwinding a little bit after the big day.

After that we’ll go off to bed because sleep is going to be majorly important heading into Packing Day  tomorrow! After all the packing and moving of luggage tomorrow, each cabin is going to do a fun cabin activity, so that’ll be super cool!

That’s all for tonight, folks!

Buggin’ out over the end of camp,

Luna

The Last Lazy Day: Adventuring into Adulting and a Big Day Bowling!

Monday, July 17th, 2017

Bowling fun!

Howdy doo dah day! Luna Bug buzzing in from the dark side of the moon!

Last night we headed into this lazy day with a fantastic sharing night. We had three separate ukulele classes, a singing class, contemporary dance, hip hop, knitting, performance art, animal care, Irish Dance, sketch comedy, snack-tractor, guitar, tap, American Sign Language, cooking, Stomp, guitar, creative writing, and Where the Wild Things Are all come up and share or perform something. It was quite a night.

Today was the last Lazy Day of the session today, and we had coffee cake to get it going, and a gorgeous blue sky all day to accompany it. The younger half went glow bowling and it was incredibly fun. The campers and counselors played 6 to a lane, and they got through a couple of games. As a snack, everybody got a soda and french fries! Woohoo!

Back on main camp, the older half had a very successful Adulting Day. There was Make Your Adult Persona Backstory, a mock job interview, How to Network With Emily, How to Sew a Button, Relay Race Table Setting, Restaurant Reservations 101, and the NYTimes Crossword Puzzles and Sudoku station. Finally, we had a skill of the day wheel which included things like how to properly iron and how to tie a tie. These stations were conducted Interest Groups style, meaning that the older half campers were hanging out in the backyard and they could choose which stations they wanted to go to and when!

On top of all of these skills, there was a modified life sized version of The Game of Life incorporated into each station. At each station, the counselors running it had little cards like “Send Your Kids to HVC” or “Get a Job as ____.” The campers were encouraged to collect as many cards as possible throughout the course of the day by doing the different skills and activities. At the very end, the cabin with the most cards got a special prize, one that fit the theme of Adulting Day. And what do adults love most? Tax breaks! Just kidding- Coupons! At the end, Camelot was the cabin with the most life cards. The prize? A coupon for one extra item at the chocolate fountain on Fair Day! Oooo….Aaaaaah!

Right now, the older half is at pool activities and the younger half is at rest period after a big morning, followed by a big ole cabin clean to get ready for packing day in a few days. After these events, everybody will meet in the backyard for evening meeting, and then dinner outside as is tradition on lazy days, and then the evening program: A Very Potter Musical!

While this whole lazy day has been going, Fair Day prep has been well under way. The Poop Shoot is on the move, and tables are as well in order to accommodate the ice cream and hot dogs to come…

Check below for photos from glow bowling and Adulting day, as well as some awesome pics from last night’s Sharing Night. We also have some pictures from the camper/counselor basketball game in case you wanted to see everybody in action!

Over and out!

Lazy Days and Last Days and Lots of Laughter!

Sunday, July 16th, 2017

The whole gang!

Hello there, world! Luna Bug here to give our faithful readers the morning report!

Man, oh, man- it’s the last day of classes! How can time fly so quickly, pass so fast? Where did the days and hours go?! Olive and I are feeling philosophical on this spectacularly blue and sunny morning.

Yesterday we wrapped up the day with the spectacular camper-counselor basketball game. After the first quarter the score was 6-3 with the campers in the lead, but the campers quickly pulled ahead to about 23 to 3 by the end of the second quarter. In the 3rd quarter Team X came out for the counselors, and while they played with their hearts, they did not close the gap. Even PK got in the game, making some aggressive moves to the basket that left everyone impressed. By the fourth quarter, a new squad of counselors came in and quickly closed the gap, and the game was tied up at around 24 points

Today was also our final Bagel Sunday! We had not one, not two, not three, but four choices of cream cheese: lox, garlic and herb, sun-dried tomato, or just regular cream cheese. Whatever your spread- butter included- it was the perfect way to begin this final day of classes.

Tomorrow we have our final lazy day of the session. The younger half will go Glow Bowling while the older half stays on camp for Adulting day. Our evening program tomorrow is the musical which is A Very Potter Musical. Should be an awesome day!

Then, after the lazy day we have Fair Day, and the next day is Packing Day, and the next day is Departure Day. Wait… WHAT?! Okay, I’m backing it up to tonight because I just can’t think about Departure day yet!

Tonight’s evening program is Sharing Night which should be a really nice way to cap off our second two weeks of classes. Everybody will gather in the Rec Hall to watch the mini performances and presentations from various classes around camp.

How to Properly Enjoy Egg Bar: A Guide

Saturday, July 15th, 2017

Sometimes, one round of gross day photos just isn’t enough!

Top of the morning to you all!

I’m Luna Bug and I’m here to give you the full report on the HVC goings on.

What better way to enter this day than with another beautiful and delicious egg bar. Now, to the reader who hasn’t had the honor and privilege of enjoying an egg bar, I’m just going to walk you through how to properly appreciate and enjoy egg bar so that you can, perhaps partially, understand why Olive Oyl and I always make such a big deal of it.

Now, imagine you are a camper and have just woken up, gotten dressed and ready for the day, and are walking through the Backyard towards the dining hall. When you are headed down to breakfast, it is important to remain vigilant! Keep your nose tilted up to catch the scent of breakfast on the wind. What could that scent possibly be?! Why, it is egg bar! The adrenaline rush that will come with this realization will propel you to line up as quickly as possible in front of the dining hall so that you can enter the dining hall as quickly as possible. Once you enter the dining hall, take a quick glance over at the grill: If you see Chris standing there with a smile on his face and a spatula in his hand you can then fully confirm that it is in fact EGG BAR!

Now, quickly! Grab a plate, but don’t grab any silverware, and certainly skip the rest of the food line.  Immediately head over to the line rapidly forming near the grill. Quickly but calmly, book it to the egg bar line. Now, it is the time to wait in line for those eggs. Chris and Lillian are flipping eggs as quickly as they humanly can, so please remain patient. Maybe you strike up a conversation with your neighbor in line, asking about what they thought of Anthony Roca last night, or maybe you simply wait for your turn while contemplating your egg order- you can choose.

As you round the bend of the line, you will pass by the toast area. It is time to make a decision: Do you want toast with your eggs, or not? If you do want toast you can exit the egg bar line, grab your toast, and reclaim your position in line.

Wait, can this be it? Can this be the moment you have been so patiently waiting for?! You are now standing in front of Chris, at the griddle, and he’s asking you for your egg bar order. Quickly! It is your time to shine and order those eggs! Whether it’s scrambled, over easy, sunny-side up, yolks cracked and whites hard, or anything in between, it is now time to order those eggs. Let Chris know how many and what kind, and he’ll make the right eggs for you.

Before you get carried away with those fresh eggs on your plate, don’t forget the final steps: Cheese and hot sauce! Place the cheese slices over those eggs quickly and the cheese will melt just perfectly, and throw some Sriracha or ketchup or Cholula hot sauce on top and you got yourself some eggs. Now, you can return to the original food line for silverware and a napkin, and maybe some fruit and sausage as well. Just remember- watch out for the potentially vicious splash of egg yolk as you bite into those eggs! And most importantly, enjoy!

Whew! Now that you know all about egg bar, and now that everyone at camp is full of egg bar, we go onwards with our day, and it is quite a day at that. After Gross day and glow bowling yesterday, we’re back to our regularly scheduled program, or programming, I should say. Crazily enough, it’s the penultimate day of classes! Across camp everybody is working to finish glazing their pottery or tie-dyeing their socks, or working on those tricks over at the skateboard park.

Excitingly, at Interest Groups today we’ll be having our counselor/camper basketball game. The basketball team has been working incredibly hard for the past 4 weeks to get ready for the game, and our counselor team has been doing some really great visualizations of how to best win the game. Rumor has it that Team X is particularly strong this year…

At the basketball game, the lovely duo of Ashley C. and Emma B. will be handing out white books to each of the campers. These aptly named books are the color white, and are completely empty. Each camper will decorate these books as they so desire, and fill the pages with all the email addresses, phone numbers, and notes from their fellow cabin mates and friends and counselors across camp. It’s a really great way to remember all the close friends we’ve made over the session.

Tonight is the play, which should be pretty awesome because it was written by our very own counselors and campers after being adapted from a children’s story book.

Check out even more gross day photos below as well as a few pictures from last night’s performance, and a couple shots from around camp.

Another day, another egg bar,

xx Luna Bug
