HVC Kittens: Where are they now?

Though llamas are supposedly HVC’s mascot, kittens are also active participants in the HVC community. HVC’s kittens act as cuddle friends that campers can play with during animal care classes or during interest groups. Every year camp acts as the home for many kittens, but at the end of every summer, the kittens are adopted by members of the camp community. Here are some updates from a variety of adopted cats.

Updates from SHADOW!

Shadow lived at camp in the summer of 2024 and was adopted by a counselor. Shadow didn’t move too far away from camp and now lives in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Staying true to his outdoorsy HVC roots, Shadow loves to climb trees and watch the fish in the koi pond.

Updates from Juniper

Juniper also lived at camp in the summer of 2024 and was also adopted by former counselor Katie Doyle! Look at how cute she is in her sink!

Updates from GREYBOY!

Greyboy is a special case among the adopted kittens because GreyBoy actually still lives at camp. Greyboy was adopted by Phillie and Carmi (and Tui and Sola!) who live on camp in the farmhouse year round.

Updates from Betty and Colin!

Special shoutout to Celie who has adopted two kittens during her time at HVC. They live near camp and so still consider themselves native Maine-ahs. We think they are just purr-fect siblings!

Update on Killer Mittens

The Durretts adopted Killer ten years ago, and he has lived in Ireland for 9 years. We think he still has his Maine accent, but it has a strange Irish twist to it now, which he is proud of. He can regularly be seen chasing foxes in Dublin and will be moving back to Maine soon! We hope he kept his passport up to date!

This camp tradition, though not often mentioned alongside more classic camp traditions, is special and uniquely HVC. New kittens will be arriving at HVC in just a couple months! What do you think this summer’s kittens will be named?

Signing off.

See you in the valley!
