Staff Training in The Valley
Hello HVC community,
Staff training is coming to a close as we anticipate camper arrival on Sunday. Staff have been put through their paces and have been focusing on creating a FUN! and safe summer! Despite the schvitz (rain), counselors have enjoyed every second and are all ready for the first session to begin!
Counselors started arriving about 2 weeks ago, with the first group including returning counselors, horse staff, ropes staff, and lifeguards. Throughout training we have welcomed more counselors who are excited to teach in the arts, and our other programmes. This summer we have counselors from various countries including: the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, Germany, Spain, Finland, Czech Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Sweden, Hungary, and France!
Our training has comprised of many tasks, we have had group conversations about the HVC community and working with children, we have had class preparations in all areas, and other responsibilities such as building the H-dock at the lake. Cabin prep has just begun! Just a few days ago, counselors moved into the cabins that they will be living in during the first session.
In the evenings, as per camp tradition, the staff have enjoyed many evening programmes. Some hits have been Capture the Flag, the Contra Dance, and the Staff Talent Show. This is a place where staff can showcase their skills and talents and we hope that all campers do so too!
Everyone from the maintenance staff, kitchen staff, pro-staff, office staff, and counseling staff cannot wait to welcome campers for summer 2025!
