November Updates
Hello! This month’s blog post shares a small collection of happenings on camp.
AURORA BOREALIS
We often talk about the snow and ice skating on the lake and sledding down the hill, but we don’t always hear about the smaller seasonal occurrences that happen at camp throughout the year. This month, the views of the aurora borealis at camp were incredible. From the picture, I’m sure we’re all equally jealous that we weren’t at camp to see this sight.
SCREEN PRINTING
Another aspect of camp that is different in winter is that many buildings aren’t habitable because they do not have heating. One building that is heated is the dining hall. Elise, you make know as one of our camp “art poobahs,” has recently turned the dining hall into a screen printing studio. Elise is currently printing next summer’s camp t-shirts in the dining-hall-printing-studio. We’ve gotten word from on-site that “it’s a huge operation!” What do you think the summer 2026 t-shirt design will be?
You may or may not remember that last summer, summer 2025, all of the camp t-shirts were printed during staff training in the Buckhorn. In the picture above, you can see counselors printing shirts! And below is a picture of a screen printing class. It’s never too early to start thinking up designs for shirts to print in class next summer!
CONSTRUCTION
1) Taj Mahal, one of the cabins in “the Burbs,” is getting a pretty nice makeover. If you didn’t know, the Taj cabin was built 1982. You can find out more fun information about all of the cabins on the cabins page of the website.
2) In November, a cat door was installed in the office! This little construction effort is mostly to help keep the various camp cats safe. Maybe the kittens will starting taking on office jobs…
Can you identify this llama by name?
LLAMAS
Finally, an update on our beloved friends and unofficial mascots, the llamas! The llamas had their usual vet checkups. And everyone is looking great! Happy and healthy. And yes, the llamas spend their winters in the Maine snow.
