Cooling Off
It’s been a busy, hot, few days here at Hidden Valley Camp as our programme looks to come to an end. This stretch of slightly hot weather looks to remain this was till our final day of camp (with a slight, slight chance of schwitz on Departure Day) but fear not, as we encourage all our campers to apply sunscreen as often as needed and hydrate or diedrate!
We kicked things off on the fourth day of classes, where we by paddled our way to Ledge Pond, to hang out with the paddleboarding class. On our way there we met ouyr lovely NEIGHHHHH-bours from the Horse Barn and stopped to say hi for a while.
At the end of the day it was lights out and glow sticks on in the rec hall as we spent the night grooving to some beautiful tunes at the Glow-in-the-dark Dance. The only colourful things in the room were the dance moves and the neon.
On the fifth day of classes we all had a chill, cozy, intimate time with our cabin mates in our final Cabin Night for 2025. There were muffins baking in the red barn, shirts getting dyed in the Buckhorn, beads being put to the flame in the Bead Studio, smores in the backyard (obviously, duh), and the hill zip bringing joy once more. But before we could even meet in our cabin groups, we gave special recognition to our special group of campers and staff members who have been with the Hidden Valley Camp community for 5 years this year, by giving them their 5-year vests, AND, an even more special group who have been with us for over a decade by giving them their 10-year sleeves! We hope to share more of these moments with more campers and staff in the coming summers :)
Day six saw the campers and counselors take each other on in the bi-annual Camper v Counselor football (I mean…soccer, sorry…) game. It was a really great and intense game that saw the campers put 4 goals, including a penalty, past the counselors to win the game 4-3 (three cheers for the campers!) Hopefully the campers can carry this form over into the Fair Day basketball game and reign victorious once more.
And if you thought that’s all the fun had on day 6, you’re wrong! The evening programme brought more action and exctiment as the younger cabins were running around in the back-and-front yards playing Candy Crunch whilst the older cabins had a chill, and soft-served Teen Party at the rec hall field.
This morning also had it’s agenda as the younger half boarded buses and drove to the bowling alleys for a day of Candlepin Bowling whilst the oler cabins took the road for the Montville Town Field Day! There was candy, music, 2-mile runners, and just overall fun!
This evening we’ll all meet in the rec hall for this session’s Play which is (drum roll please)… PETER PAN!
