Howdy all! Snoop Cat here with an animal update!

As my good friend Olive said the other day, some chickens have just joined our family of animals here at HVC. In addition to these new members, we have two donkeys, two mini-ponies, a pig, llamas, two horses, and six kittens currently on camp. More horses will be arriving next week which will be followed soon after by our Horse Staff along with the Waterfront and Ropes staff. Keep your eyes peeled for another update soon, but in the meantime check out these photos of our furry friends!

Hey there friends! Olive Oyl here with your summer prep news!

Things are moving right along here in Maine with lots of ongoing projects in preparation for another amazing summer! We have new walkways to the lake to make for a safer and easier trek to swim tests, windsurfing, and cool-offs on hot days. We also have a new chicken house with lots of new chickens that can’t wait to meet our awesome campers. We’re also beginning to construct the pizza oven, perfect for a delicious treat on cabin nights. All of these improvements and additions are getting us so excited for the upcoming session! I’ll be sure to keep you updated as July approaches…

Dexter the secret llama!

Hi, there! Special reporter Olive Oyl here with some exciting news to share with you! So many fun changes happening here to get ready for camp.

The new Snack Shack is well underway—the foundation has been poured and we now have our very own pizza oven, perfect for cabin nights and cooking classes!

The llamas are also getting prepped for summer. They’ve been shaved so they can stay nice and cool once July comes (check out the attached pics)! The llama shearer, Malcolm, even offered to shave Dexter, confirming that everyone is fooled into believing that Dexter is really a llama.

Dear Friends,

Justin here…Olive Oyl is allowing me to give you a quick update directly from HVC where I walked around camp with Peter earlier today so that he could show me work in progress as he and the camp’s work crew get ready for your arrival here.

Standing by Two Buck Tims’ near the wood shop, Peter pointed out a strange looking frame that will soon be the back stop for the new archery area called Wabanaki Range. Will be very exciting to have archery return to HVC after a 50 year hiatus.

Then Peter walked me over the other side of Deer Meadows, just beyond the skateboard court where last fall Al built a “pump track” for mountain bikes. It has all sorts of little hills and ramps, even a see-saw to ride over. This is going to be really fun!

I followed Peter up the road, and the first thing I saw were the newly painted tennis courts.  Soon there will be a new practice board there as well.  

Then, walking up the road toward main camp, I noticed something different which I can share with you… If you look at the soccer field photo here, you are going to notice something missing and something new… The low trees that were planted along the road about 3 years ago –  before Peter and Meg were at camp – were placed directly under an electric line and had to be removed. The lumber milled from these trees will be used to build things around camp (like the archery wall, tennis board, etc.) and a stone wall is being rebuilt along the road.

“Time to head up to the snack shack,” said Peter. I thought, ”If it’s about food, you won’t get any argument from me,” and so he had me take a photo of bare ground next to the Shack (where the tractor is stored during the winter). Turns out that this spot is where the crew will build a new outdoor brick pizza oven to be used in cooking classes, on cabin nights, etc. Yum!

So, that’s the report from HVC. Stay tuned for more details from camp as Meg and Peter, the work crew and counselors prepare for your time in Maine.
