Cherry Blossom in bloom by the llama pen

Hi there, friends! Olive Oyl here with some more pre-camp news! We’ve had a lovely Memorial Day weekend here in Maine, with the sun poking out a little bit and reminding us that summer is on its way! Staff enjoyed a weekend off with a barbeque hosted by one of our PDs and her family.

On Friday we had a pizza party on camp to celebrate all the efforts of those who helped up make our new office a reality. Stone masons and carpenters and painters and community members all came together to eat delicious pizza, cake, and libations after a winter and spring of hard work. So it’s safe to say the pizza oven is back up and running and tastes as delicious as ever! We’re so excited to break in our office this summer and show it off to our whole HVC family.

Meanwhile on camp, trees are blooming and camp is becoming more colorful as we get ready to welcome in a new summer. Our PK crew is hard at work all over camp getting cabins and trails ready for lots of footsteps and campers to come. Our ropes director Seth has arrived so course setup is underway, just as our other danger area on the other side of camp, the horse barn, is busy getting things ready and taking care of our beautiful ponies.

Be sure to check out the photos of camp in bloom plus our pizza party extravaganza! Stay tuned for more news as staff begin to trickle in this week and we gear up for staff training!

Hugs and kisses,

Olive

Here We Go Again!

One of the first meetings of the summer! Meg and horse director Ciera on the front porch of the new office.

Hi, friends! Olive Oyl here with an live update from camp! Things are looking lush and green with lots of anticipation for the summer ahead. The new office is just starting to get worn in and cozy with the PDs working away in the loft upstairs and our office staff hard at work on the first floor. There’s so much space for lots of postcards plus ample room to greet our parents, friends, and campers when they arrive on camp. The space looks familiar, with many of our photos and art still here, but in different spots. We can’t wait for you to check it out! Not to mention the beautiful new park where the old office used to be, Founders Park, which is a lovely new spot as you walk down camp road.

Camp is starting to slowly grow, with four new staff arrivals yesterday giving us lots of helping hands to get camp in tip-top shape. The beehive and international house are warming up once again, with our glass staff organizing the shops and getting them prepared for staff training and camper arrival. We’ve been clearing trails and cleaning out buildings, like the Rec Hall, which is getting some attention today as we get ready for all the theatrical, musical, and comedic magic that will take place there this summer.

Be sure to check out lots of cool photos around camp today!

Lots of love,

Olive

Spring colors and thinking about summer…

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

Hi, cutie!

Hello, friends! Love time no see and long time no blog. Olive Oyl here with a little spring/almost summer update for our HVC family across the world.

As warmer weather approaches, camp is showing off a little bit with its blooming flowers and vibrant colors. Not to mention our beautiful new office, which is ready to welcome campers, counselors, and staff in just a few short months (and only a few short weeks for some early arriving folks). I personally can’t wait to break in the new place with a blog post– keep your eyes peeled next week!

Our new baby pig, Hamilton, is getting out and enjoying the springtime air and looking adorable doing it. He and Luke the dog are becoming fast friends exploring the springtime beauty at camp. Staff are hard at work getting the pool ready for the summer, although it may be a little too cold for a dip at the moment. Ferns are popping up and looking super awesome (check out pictures below), plus cute little bunches of flowers around Tipi Hill and daffodils by the Red Barn.

Over by the animal barn, the chickens are doing well and laying lots of eggs– see photo of Courtney with a basket full of em! So much new life and beauty this spring.

We’re so excited to usher in the springtime as we get the ball rolling for another amazing summer at HVC!

Over and out,

Olive
