Hi, friends! Special Reporter Olive Oyl here with your update as we embark on another fabulous day of classes!

First off, we have a lot to fill you in on about our amazing teen programs! HVA came back from their trip on the St. Croix river two days ago and had a lot to report back to main camp. One camper recounted:

“The canoe trip was one of the coolest things I have done in a very long time. Not only did I push myself physically and emotionally, I formed a bond of friendship with my fellow HVA campers that I consider to be incredibly pertinent to the trip as a whole. It was moving, hilarious, difficult, and ultimately rewarding. I am having a great time and can’t wait for the next trip.”

These sentiments were shared among all the HVA-ers, who are enjoying a few days back at Hidden Valley before leave for their next journey to Baxter and Acadia State Park. They accomplished so much on their last trip on the St. Croix, like paddling over 60 miles, spotting ten bald eagles, and seeing the U.S. on the right side of the bank and Canada on the left bank. They were gone for seven days and experienced amazing weather, with a little bit of schvitz only on the first day. They also sailed across the Spednic Lake, using only a tarp and two branches. Sounds like an incredible time! When they got back to camp they joined our other teen program, Alive! for a contra dance with a live band. We were happy to have them back at camp for a few days, but are super excited to hear about their next voyage! Be sure to check out the beautiful photos from their trip.

Alive! has also been having a ton of fun lately. Their evening program last night was the first ever Murder Mystery dinner party. Campers spent the day prepping for the event by watching the movie Clue, playing improv games, and decorating the red and white tent outside Wabanaki. All of the preparation led to the dinner party where the campers role played as their designated characters and worked on decoding clues. Overall, the lazy day was a huge success and Alive is looking forward to continuing this awesome activity in future sessions!

Today we continue on with our penultimate day of classes. We’re getting ready for Sharing Night, where we’ll see music, dance, and tons of other assorted performances tomorrow night. Time has just flown by! Today is an extra special class day because it’s both Aloha Tuesday and PK Shirt Day. On Tuesdays, in the traditional Hawaiian spirit, we honor a special tropically-dressed counselor with a lay and sweet ukulele music. This Tuesday is also PK shirt day, where we honor our favorite boss, Peter, by sporting his usual garb of patterned, button-up shirts.

Quick backtrack to yesterday…our movie night was a blast! We watched Freaky Friday, which brought a ton of laughs and good times to the Rec Hall. We then all headed back to our cabins for a good night’s sleep after a busy lazy day. Tonight’s evening program is Bazzinga, our awesome mystery program. For those of you who do know, I’m sure you can’t wait, and for those of you who don’t know, more details to come tomorrow!

Until then,

Olive
