Good afternoon, Hidden Valley fans! How are things? Things are bustling around here today. It’s a lazy lazy day, kids rolled out of bed and into breakfast in their finest PJs. Soon after a breakfast of croissants, eggs, cinnamon apple oatmeal, toast, and the like, campers changed into their swimsuits and younger half headed down to the pool for pool activities!

There were reading circles, Magic the Gathering tournaments, facepainting, frisbee, and even a slip and slide! After enjoying some sun and fun down at the pool, we signed up for our next batch of classes! Some new ones being offered these two weeks are an alternate surfaces art class, collage, comic book creation, figure drawing, t-shirt design, ballet beats, a bug’s life, flash mob, mad science, meditation, found percussive music, ten minute playwriting, and boat fishing.  So much to choose from!

After class sign ups, we headed to our respective cabins for cabin cleans and welcoming our new two week campers! Today is both bitter and sweet, as we say goodbye to our first batch of two-weekers and welcome our new two-weekers, who are meeting their fellow bunkmates, unpacking, and settling into their new homes. Cabins will have plenty of time for more bonding later this afternoon during cabin activities. Here’s what everyone’s up to!

Down Under will be getting down having a dance party and French Quarter will be berry hunting along the lake path. Loons and LCH will both be cooling off and having fun in the lake, while Gimme Shelter will be enjoying the outdoors on a creek walk. Shangri-La will be having a dance party and making some artwork for their cabin, while Paquatahnee will be decorating cupcakes and then creating a puppet show with their creations. Avalon will be going on a trip and dip- a hike and then a swim in the lake. Fiddler’s Green is enjoying their lunch at the lake then heading back to their cabin to hang out. Camelot is having a spa party down by the hot tub and Valhalla is taking advantage of the beautiful day on the creek walk. Treasure Island will get an adrenaline rush on Tipi Zip and Forbidden Planet will be doing a scavenger hunt across camp. Atlantis spent the afternoon at Camden State Park, enjoying a picnic lunch and hiking. Taj Mahal will be having an English tea party, complete with croquet and boce ball. Haley’s Comet is doing a workshop with Peter Boie, a magical magician who will be our evening program tonight. Can’t wait!

Before all of today’s laziness, we had an amazing sharing night yesterday. We were thoroughly entertained with our hilarious MC’s, an explorer and a narrator to voice the explorer’s expeditions. We got funky with the Latin Fusion class, Contemporary dance, and Jazz. There was lots of music with songwriting class singing an original song, guitar class who sang “I’m Yours” and Glee class sang “Stay”, not to mention a performance by the Uku-legends. There were also funny moments, with improv class, Outreach Outdoors, and creative writing making everyone laugh. All in all, it was fantastic to see all of the work that we have produced in just two short weeks. Now we’re starting fresh and I can’t wait for the next and final sharing night!

It’s time for another teen update…Alive has been busy today choosing their new classes! Among the myriad of choices are character development, music beats, acapella singing, paper lanterns, spoken word poetry, bookmaking, clay decay, mask making, and found percussive. Awesome!

We’ll be enjoying delicious pizza dinner tonight before our evening of mischief and magic with Peter Boie. Until then, we’re soaking up some rays and taking it easy on the laziest of lazy days!

Don’t forget to look below for loads of cool photos!

Forever yours,
Alleycat & Olive
